A copy of the RTN community service television announcement has been sent to television stations throughout NSW for airing during October 1997. We hope the announcement has a life of around 5 years before becoming stale. The voice-over in the 1997 announcement is being changed right at the end, to take out the date of that year's march. It will be replaced with, 'around the last Friday in October', so it can be used for any year. In 1997 we (the project team) asked the TV stations to play it during the month of October leading up to the event. Rural RTN supporters can lobby their nearest TV stations to encourage them to play the announcement You can engage your local TV station programming manager by showing them the VHS copy, if they haven't seen it already. Give them the actual date of your event each year. In 1997 some TV stations were concerned about the absence of a 'FACTS' Approval Number for the announcement. The Federation of Australian Commercial Television Stations (FACTS) vets advertisements and announcements before they go to air. The Reclaim the Night community service announcement is exempt from this process because:
NBN (Newcastle) used this as the reason for not playing the announcement in 1997; all other TV stations gave great coverage and pay TV was interested.
