You need 2-3 people to organise this. Write a media release. To attract the media to come along have a well known person, for example, a local woman councillor. Send out packages to all media outlets with an invitation, clearly outlining time, place, date and any other relevant information. It's good to go for personal contacts with the media if you know supportive journalists. Follow up with a phone call. If some outlets ignore you try another avenue. "A group painted banners in the local shopping centre and the press came to that. We had leaflets to hand out while they were there." You may need to provide access to phones and faxes for the media to use at the conference site.
