The 1997 Reclaim The Night march in Bathurst included a performance of fire theatre by a group of local women.  The performance was the culmination of a series of workshops in fire theatre conducted for women survivors of sexual assault by Kathleen Melbourne, an honours student in Theatre Media at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst.  Kathleen had previously performed at two earlier marches with her fire troupe, Phoenix.  The workshops focused on issues of self-esteem and body image and developing personal strengths through group work in fire skills.  The group's masked performance at Reclaim The Night was an empowering and inspiring experience for all women.
