The Network of Women Students in Australia NOWSA has been active for 10 years and has a rich history of discussion, action and impact. NOWSA's annual conference is an opportunity for women students from around Australia to come together and discuss a wide range of issues facing women. For the first time this year, the NOWSA conference is being held at a regional university the University of Western Sydney, Nepean. Nepean is situated about 50 km west of Sydney at the foot of the Blue Mountains, close to Penrith. This will contribute to a different type of conference from previously, focussing on regional issues. The 1998 conference will shift from being a predominantly university based forum like in the past, to a more broadly based space for women students. A number of changes signal the development of a different network reflecting the current education climate for women students, TAFE students articulating and representing their needs and capacities, and the importance of community involvement in education for the future of the student movement.
