In December 2001, the Sydney bushfires were horrific. Annandale was close to the fires - you could see burnt leaves dropping from the sky. Our local bush became a refuge for some of those who could escape the flames. |

In early 2002, a bird call was heard that was new to my ear. The bird in the picture was making the call and was tracked to Spindler Park in North Annandale. This dirty grey forlorn creature called and called and called. Four days later, to the Valley's relief, there was a reply from the fig trees in Hogan Park. |
